Department Summary

The Governance & Component Relations Department provides AILA’s Board of Governors and component groups (Chapters, Sections and Interest Groups) with managerial, hands-on support and consultative services related to governance, leadership development, compliance and operations.   

Your role 

Reporting to the Director of Component Relations, the Component Relations Associate is responsible for component and Chapter outreach and support and aiding in maximizing the AILA member communities experience. 

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following essential job functions:

Component/AILA Community Relations

  • Work in conjunction with the Associate Director on NMD, GMS, FCLS and Law Student activities including organizing liaison calls, recording call and meeting minutes*, article development, and activities, including AC and Taste of Events. 
  • Prepare and distribute bi-monthly NMD chapter rosters.
  • Manage law student committee activities, including creating strategies for converting law student members to full membership and development support for law student networks.
  • Manage and develop NMD engagement strategies.
  • Manage internal and member listservs administration.
  • Oversee Special Interest Groups.
  • Work with the GMS to identify potential International Associates.
  • Create retention strategies for International Associates.

Chapter Support 

  • Partner with Marketing Department to explore new ways to communicate member benefit programs and services to Chapters.
  • Manage AILA National/Chapter admin functions as necessary.
  • Manage Chapter Awards program.
  • Prepare and distribute monthly chapter rosters.
  • Manage chapter new member notification and chapter objection process.
  • Oversee the maintenance of chapter Web pages, including working with relevant staff on postings.  
  • Assist in development and coordination of Leadership Workshop and other Chapter training's.

Member Engagement 

  • Develop and manage component member outreach strategies using the AILA website, e-Newsletters, and social media.
  • Ensure that various community (GMS, Law Student, NMD) web content is robust and current to maximize the member community experience.
  • Work with Data Analyst to provide additional support to AILA chapters and other components.
  • Support Special Interest Group leaders and develop strategies to increase member engagement within Interest Groups.

Your background 

To perform successfully in this role, our ideal candidate will possess an undergraduate degree in Communications, Business or related field; and 2-4 years directly related experience; preferably in an Association environment or experience working with a membership-driven organization. 

Candidates should demonstrate a track record of excellent customer relations support using a variety of communication mediums and platforms; have strong project management and coordination skills involving association/nonprofit volunteers or others in leadership and high level staff roles (internally & externally); excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills; database management proficiency and skill; and a capacity to develop a working knowledge of association products and services.
