The Government Relations team advocates for immigration-related legislative, regulatory, and policy reforms before Congress and the agencies, consistent with AILA’s principles and priorities.
As the Liaison Coordinator you will be responsible for 1) receiving, vetting, and processing requests from AILA members seeking assistance with their immigration cases; 2) providing extensive service and support to AILA members seeking information related to immigration law or practice, AILA’s government relations activities, and general requests for information; and 3) providing overall and general administrative support to the Government Relations Department. These activities require the Liaison Coordinator to: provide exceptional member service support regarding all aspects of AILA government relations activities; respond to e-mail and phone inquiries from AILA members; monitor case reports/case examples and identify problem trends in immigration adjudications; track meetings, conference calls, department activities and deadlines. The Liaison Coordinator will also assist with maintaining government relations-oriented content on the AILA website; draft practice alerts for posting on the AILA website; support the team’s work in developing membership participation in advocacy activities; and perform other administrative tasks as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Basic knowledge of immigration law, policy, and procedures, with a focus on family-based immigration, humanitarian relief, and removal defense.
- Understanding of AILA’s policy agenda, and administrative advocacy efforts.
- Excellent writing, editing, proofreading and organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/Outlook)
- Strong member-service orientation
- Database proficiency
- Strong research and electronic communications skills
- Capacity to provide timely response to requests for information, service and/or assistance
- Capacity to develop a working knowledge of association products and services

Your Background and Experience
Bachelor’s degree required with 1-2 years of experience in an immigration non-profit or law office setting as a paralegal or legal assistant. Prior experience in an association, member-service or customer service environment is highly desirable. Our ideal candidate will be have basic training in or understanding of immigration law, policy and procedures.
